terrain field recording using 1990 chevy caprice

I have always been info field recording and it is always interesting using a new mic, recorder or method to record, so i am always in search of that new appraoch i have not tryed And i belive i have found that new approach.

Terrain Field Recording: this is almost as if you are using the vehicle as the mic of sorts.

This method of field recording came about while i was thinking of fitting a mobile setup into a vehicle. This new reformed idea is to record different driving conditions/terrain by using a homemade transducer microphone attached to the body of the car, running it to a portable recorder placed in the front seat.

The plan was not to only pick up shifts and changes in the terrain conditions but to hear the car itself and how it was reacting to the changes. For this trial the road conditions were fairly simple not much change was introduced other than the puddles of water and pot holes here and there and even with that you can still hear the car going through so many changes, i kept the car at around 50mph during the recording.

Below you will see a video displaying short clips of the recording process of this first trial as well as audio coming in after the car is turned on.

I think this idea would be interesting trying in various vehicles and at different speeds as well as on different roads (in terms of gravel, cement, stone and so on).
